    Filing for Mille Lacs County and state offices begins May 21

    Filing for Mille Lacs county offices and state legislative seats begins May 21 and ends Tuesday, June 4.

    All members of the Minnesota House of Representatives are up for election this November. Three Mille Lacs County commissioners and three Soil and Water Supervisor positions will also be on the ballot.

    Most area cities and school districts also have elections this fall. Filing for those offices takes place July 30 through August 13.

    The state will have elections for U.S. Senator, all eight Congressional seats, statewide and district judgeships and the U.S. Presidency.

    County offices include the commissioners for Districts 1, 3 and 5, and one each Soil and Water Supervisor for Districts 1, 2 and 4. (See map)

    The place of filing for county offices is the Mille Lacs County Auditor-Treasurer, 635 2nd St SE, Milaca MN 56353.

    The place of filing for state offices is with the Office of the Secretary of State or with the county auditor of the county in which the candidate resides. Candidates may file in person or by mail if the filing is received during the filing period.

    Three House districts serve Mille Lacs County: Districts 10A, 10B and 27B. Dist. 10A serves the immediate Messenger territory in the top third of the county. Dist. 10B and 27B serve the southern two thirds of the county.

    Statewide, one U.S Senator seat will be on the ballot, currently held by incumbent Amy Klobuchar.

    All eight Congressional districts are also on the ballot this fall. Mille Lacs County is in House District 8, currently held by Pete Stauber.

    The place of filing for federal offices is the Office of the Secretary of State, Veteran Services Building, 20 West 12th Street, St. Paul, MN 55155.

    Judges will also be voted upon in November: One Supreme Court Chief Justice, one Supreme Court Associate Justice for seats 5 and 6, one Court of Appeals Judge for seats 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 14; and Seventh Judicial District Court Judge for seats 1, 5, 6, 7, 10, 16, 17, 20, 23. Mille Lacs County is in the 7th Judicial District.

    Key election dates for 2024:

    Filing for county and state offices: May 21 to June 4

    Filing for city and school board offices: Tuesday, July 30 through Aug. 13.

    Tuesday, Aug. 13 – General Minnesota primary election day (for any state legislative districts with multiple candidates and some city and school districts)

    Friday, Sept. 20 – Early voting begins for the Nov. 5 general election

    Tuesday, Oct. 15 – Deadline to pre-register for the general election

    Tuesday, Nov. 5 – General election day, polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout Mille Lacs County, Minnesota and nation-wide.
