CENTREVILLE — Coming together for their May meeting Queen Anne’s County Council of Governments discussed a countywide feasibility study for a new community center over plates of pasta at Mamma Mia’s Italian Bistro in Centreville.

County Parks and Recreation director Steve Chandlee discussed the plan proposal which invites everyone to “plan where you play” and encourages the input of existing programs and amenities.

The County currently does not have an indoor facility for recreational programming and Queen Anne’s County is examining needs, designs and locations for a possible future community recreation center, according to Chandlee.

New community center options are in the hands of the community as a feasibility study welcomes public input to gauge interest and bring residents what they want.

“It’s quick and easy and doesn’t impact a lot of your time,” he said.

The Queen Anne’s County Parks and Recreation Center will be an opportunity to diversify community activities including potentially ice skating or dance classes, he said.

The feasibility study is being performed by outside company BerryDun and is gauging interest from all areas of the county, he said.

Location considerations currently include county-owned properties in Grasonville, Stevensville, Centreville and Sudlersville, Chandlee said.

“Nothing is off the table, all options should be looked at,” he said.

Chandlee encouraged municipality representatives to pass the survey information on to their residents.

“Everybody has an important point of view of how they’re going to participate in it,” Chandlee said.

The survey is available until May 31 with comments continuing on until about November, he said.

The feasibility study is available at https://berrydunn.mysocialpinpoint.com/qacstudy.

The Council of Governments will next meet Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in Queenstown.
