If you have a small bust , then you know finding the perfect dress isn’t always a walk in the park. There are so many factors to consider besides the obvious one: fit. Things like texture, print, and cut make all the difference in camouflaging or accentuating your chest, depending on what you’re going for.

Let it be known that having a smaller chest shouldn’t ever be a point of insecurity. If anything, you can pull off certain styles way better than most, like going braless or rocking a plunging neckline. Not to mention, any sports bra, even the low-impact ones, gets the job done no matter the workout. Now that’s truly a blessing. What Kinds of Dresses Work Best for Small Busts?

Breasts come in all shapes and sizes and no size is better than another,” says Rebekah Roy , fashion stylist and sustainable fashion expert, based in the United Kingdom. “Each size has its bonuses and its challenges.”

Roy notes there are lots of dress options for people with small busts, but there are still a few styles to consider. “A high round neck is the classic option but you have so much more to choose from nowadays,” she says. “Think of creating curves and enjoying your body shape. Halter neck and square neckline lines are always flattering but don’t shy away from the super deep-v neckline. It can be sexy and powerful (think J. Lo); it’s all about fit and proportions.”

Additionally, Roy says, “The classic shirt dress is a great wardrobe staple and you can wear it open and show off underneath a pop of color or a silky bralette. Layers will work well for your shape and you can really play with them. A ruched or smocked dress can create curves, and the puff sleeve trend will look great.”

What Types of Dresses to Avoid If You Have a Small Bust

According to Roy, you should “avoid baggy, oversized shapes. It’s easy to lose your shape in a tiered summer dress.” Plus, “take caution when choosing a wrap dress, any dress that is plain with no pattern or detailing will emphasize that you have a small bust.”

The size of straps can also “make you look out of proportion,” Roy adds. “Avoid dresses with a scooped neckline, or a lot of space from the neck to the chest.”
