Here’s where the first Best Buy Outlet store in South Florida will soon open

Two and a half months after closing its longtime store at the intersection of West Sample Road and State Road 7 in Margate, Best Buy plans to reopen at the location — as its first Best Buy Outlet store in South Florida.

The location in the Coral Landings III shopping center now sports a Best Buy Outlet and Coming Soon sign. When open, it will join 24 Best Buy Outlet stores opened around the country, including the only other one in Florida — in the city of Ocoee, near Orlando.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel emailed the company seeking details about the planned store, including a forecasted opening date, what will be sold there, whether it will offer its Geek Squad technical services, and whether more outlet stores are planned for South Florida.

Representatives have not yet responded.

But if the new store follows the same format as other Best Buy Outlet stores, it will offer heavily discounted prices on items across four categories:

• Open-box items — products that have been returned by purchasers or used for display
• Clearance items — brand new, unopened products that have been discontinued by their manufacturers
• Refurbished items — products returned because of a problem but have been repaired
• Pre-owned items — used products that have been verified to work properly

In many cases, warranties will remain intact, according to information previously disclosed by the company.

According to a December 2022 news release, Best Buy Outlet stores honor all Best Buy Totaltech membership benefits, including free delivery and standard installation. The outlet stores also have a Geek Squad area where tech support will be provided for products sold at the discounted prices.

In addition to major appliances and televisions, every outlet has an expanded assortment of name-brand products sold at Best Buy’s regular stores, including laptops, tablets, gaming products, mobile photos and more at discounted prices, the release said.

Online customers are able to browse every product offered at their local Best Buy Outlet stores by navigating to the outlet section of Best Buy’s website and clicking on their store’s location.

On Friday, the web page for the Ocoee outlet store advertised a bottom-freezer refrigerator from Best Buy’s Insignia brand that sells new for $599.99.

Several open box deals were listed, including one in “fair” condition for $449.99, in “good” condition for $479.99 and in “excellent” condition for $509.99.

The webpage also advertised a Bosch stainless steel dishwasher that sells for $989.99 new. The open-box deal for the dishwasher in “good” condition was $667.99.

A 65-inch LG OLED smart TV that sells for $1,599.99 new was offered as an open-box deal in “fair” condition for $1,212.99.

All of the products are advertised as “Geek Squad”-verified to be working, but products listed in “good” or “fair” condition might have visible signs of wear and might be missing parts and accessories, original packaging, the owners manual and manufacturer registration, the site states.

It also says that products listed in “excellent” condition look and work like new and come with all original parts and accessories.

Declining sales has prompted Best Buy to close numerous stores around the country in recent years, including 14 during its 2023 fiscal year that ended in February 2023, and 24 during the 2024 fiscal year that ended in February 2024, according to its latest annual financial report.

About 10 to 15 more closures are planned in fiscal 2025, the report stated.

Meanwhile, the company began opening outlet stores in 2021, in part to drive “a better financial recovery on open-box and return product,” Best Buy CEO Corie Sue Barry told investors during an earnings call in March 2023.

Barry said the outlet stores “are driving a higher mix of new and re-engaged customers.”

Best Buy opened three outlet stores in its 2023 fiscal year and five more in its 2024 fiscal year. The company is also opening standalone appliance stores called “Pacific Sales” in Southern California and stores that sell patio furniture, called “Yardbird,” in various parts of the country, including in Palm Beach Gardens.

Currently, 17 Best Buy stores are open in the tricounty region, excluding the Margate location and another in Miami that are listed on Google as “temporarily closed.”
