Blackhawks at IIHF Worlds: Lukas Reichel Strikes Twice, Germany Cruises Past Kazakhstan

Lukas Reichel is picking up the pace at the 2024 IIHF World Championship. After dishing a pair of assists on Wednesday, the Chicago Blackhawks forward scored two goals in Germany's 8-2 win over Kazakhstan on Friday.

It was a close game in the opening period as Germany took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. The scoring picked up in the middle frame thanks to Germany's NHL talent. After JJ Peterka made it 3-1, Reichel capitalized on Kazakhstan's turnover to extend the Germans' lead to three.

Lukas Kalble added a second-period tally before Reichel struck again in the third period. On a nicely executed rush play, Wojciech Stachowiak crisscrossed with Reichel and fed the Blackhawks' youngster the puck for a driving finish.

Kazakhstan got one back just over a minute later, but Frederik Tiffels and Maximilian Kastner put the finishing touches on Germany's blowout victory in the home stretch of the third period.

Reichel finished with two goals on five shots and a +4 rating in 14:09 of ice time — not a bad way to spend a birthday. After Friday's showing, the just-turned-22-year-old has four points (two goals, two assists) in three games at the 2024 IIHF Worlds.

Reichel and Germany return to action Saturday when they face Poland at 9:20 AM CT.
