Sometimes you may feel your bowling average has capped and you’re just not making much improvement; this is certainly true for many of us who roll in the 140-170 range. These tips may help you focus your physical game and give you more confidence in the mental aspects. These tips seem simple and straightforward but they may be the key for you to boost your scores. They are not necessarily profound, but a way to organize your practice for the best results.

    1. Practice your strike and spare angle adjustments during practice sessions. The goal is to feel confident in your adjustments when using them in competition.

    2. Try to figure out one or two physical skills to work on during a practice session. Don’t try to do everything at once. Perhaps it’s your footwork or your swing or ball speed. Focus on what needs work and concentrate on that.

    3. Have a plan for your practice session. Plan your work and work your plan.

    4. You may need to change balls. There are so many options available these days compared to what bowling balls used to be that this can be confusing. You may need to do a little research and consult with some advanced bowlers to help your choices.

Build your game in practice, trust your game in competition.

Here are the results for the four leagues still competing. The Wednesday afternoon Senior League has concluded the season with a group lunch at Tierra del Sol. The various leagues divide the season into quarters or halves. The standings reported below reflect the current marks, not the overall season.

Graham International remains the team to beat in the Thursday Commercial League, sporting an impressive 27-9 record for the reset. Rollin’ Dirty remains in contention with a mark of 23-13 and a couple other teams have long shots to take over. Familiar bowlers continue to dominate the high scores. JP’s Classic Lanes’ General Manager Tarry Davison paced the men, scorching a 279 game and 737 series. Kyra Jenkins took care of business for the ladies, knocking out a 224 game and 591 series.

Full Throttle continues to keep the pedal to the metal in Sunday’s This Ain’t Yo Momma’s Bowling League, possessing a 39-13 record. Split Happens is in the hunt, tallying 36-16. Cheyenne Williams outscored the ladies, rolling a 205 game and 545 series. Trenton Daugherty tossed a 256 for men’s high game and Brandon Williams notched a 598 high series.

WWM kept their first place standing in the Monday Trio League, winning all four points to move to a 26-6 reset mark. Stone and Gang took three out of four to remain in second position with a 21-11 reset record. Russ Boyd was on target for the men’s high scoring, shooting a 289 game and 676 series. Perennial high scorer Debby Essary blasted a 257 game and 635 series to again lead the ladies.

Cletus’s High Rollers kept their hot streak alive, taking all four points to stand alone atop the Tuesday Mixed League with a 25-11 reset tally. Irish Pride, Thompson’s Tornado and Bowling Beavers are within hailing distance. David Strain crashed a 263 game to lead the men, and Tarry Davison scored 695 for men’s high series. Carrie Shields rolled a 213 to lead ladies’ game scores and Kyra Jenkins had a fine 583 for ladies’ high series.

Until next week, good luck and good bowling.
