    Construction projects continue this week in north central Pa.

    The following is a round-up of current PennDOT road work and construction projects in northcentral Pa.:

    Lane restrictions on County Line Road in Union, Snyder counties

    Starting Monday, a contractor working for UGI Utilities will begin a blacktop base repair project as part of a gas main replacement project on Route 1017 (County Line Road) in Union and Snyder counties.

    Work will take place between Trutt Road in Union Township, Union County and Route 1017 (Park Road) in Monroe Township, Snyder County. Work on this section of County Line Road will be performed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and is expected to be completed on Tuesday, May 28.

    When the first section is complete on or about May 28, the contractor will begin performing blacktop base repairs on Park Road between County Line Road and Route 1016 (Kratzerville Road) in Monroe Township, Snyder County. This work is expected to be completed on Wednesday, June 5.

    Lycoming County

    Alternating lane restrictions will be in place this week along Interstate 180 near Montoursville as part of a two-year roadway project.

    Starting Monday, the contractor will begin installing bridge deck seals on the structures carrying Interstate 180 over Route 87 and the Loyalsock Creek. Work will be performed in both directions between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Drivers can expect alternating lane restrictions where work is being performed.

    Glenn O. Hawbaker is the prime contractor for this $11.4 million highway resurfacing project. Work in 2023 included mill and resurface of over 13 miles of roadway including entrance and exit ramps at Route 87 and the Fairfield Road interchanges, pavement marking, and epoxy of bridges throughout the work zone. Work in 2024 includes new lighting, guide rail upgrades, and signage. Work on this project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2024.

    Also on Interstate 180 this week, lane restrictions will be in place in Muncy Creek Township for a bridge deck patching project.

    A PennDOT maintenance crew will perform bridge deck patching on the structures that carry Interstate 180 over Route 405. Drivers can expect lane restrictions near mile marker 13 (Muncy / Route 405 interchange). Work will be performed between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

    Route 220 resurfacing project

    A roadway resurfacing project continues on Route 220 southbound in Porter, Piatt, and Pine Creek townships.

    This week, the contractor will continue work to repair the bridge decks on the structures carrying Route 220 southbound over the railroad in Piatt Township and Pine Creek in Pine Creek Township, Clinton County. Motorists can expect alternating lane restrictions where work is being performed. Work will be performed Mondays through Fridays between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

    HRI is the prime contractor for this $ 3.1 million resurfacing project. Work includes milling and resurfacing of over four miles of Route 220 southbound between the Route 287 in Piatt Township and Pine Creek in Pine Creek Township, Clinton County, including resurfacing the ramps at the Route 220/Route 44 interchange (Main Street) and Route 3027 interchange (Thomas Street) in Jersey Shore Borough. Additional work includes drainage upgrades, sawing and sealing of asphalt, bridge preservation on several structures, guiderail and concrete barrier upgrades, line painting, and traffic delineators. Work on this project is expected to be completed on in September of 2024.

    Route 220 bridge improvement project

    A bridge replacement and rehabilitation project continues this week. This project replaced the northbound structure carrying Route 220 over the Fourth Street off ramp and rehabilitated northbound structures over Antlers Lane and the Lycoming Valley Railroad during the 2023 construction season. The 2024 construction season will replace the southbound structure carrying Route 220 over the Fourth Street off ramp and rehabilitated southbound structures over Antlers Lane and the Lycoming Valley Railroad.

    Week of May 20

    The contractor will continue construction of the new structure over the Fourth Street exit ramp.The contractor will continue repairs to the structures over Antlers Lane and the railroad.

    TRAFFIC STATUS:

    All traffic is currently traveling on the northbound side of the highway. A movable barrier system separates the north and southbound traffic. This barrier system will be moved daily to ensure two lanes of travel northbound for the morning commute and two lanes southbound for the afternoon commute. During these times, the opposing direction of traffic will be restricted to one lane.The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph throughout the work zone.A 12-foot width restriction is in place for both north and southbound Route 220 traffic.

    Drivers can expect traffic to be controlled by the moveable barrier system until Fall 2024.

    Susquehanna Valley Construction Corporation is the prime contractor on this $18 million, multi-year bridge improvement project.

    The southbound structures are scheduled to be completed by fall of 2024.

    Route 15 and Four Mile Drive high-friction surface treatment

    Alternating lane restrictions will be part of a High Friction Service Treatment (HFST) project this week on Route 15 in Lewis Township and Route 2018 (Four Mile Drive) in Loyalsock Township.

    Starting Monday through Thursday, the contractor will apply a HFST on the northbound lanes of Route 15 in the area of Powey’s Curve, approximately 3.5 miles south of the Trout Run exit ramp to Route 14. Work will be performed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. weather permitting. Drivers can expect alternating lane restrictions where work is being performed.

    On Thursday, the contractor will apply HFST on the eastbound lane of Four Mile Drive between Nast Avenue and Route 2039 (Warrensville Road). Work will be performed between the hours of 5 p.m. and 6 a.m. Drivers can expect single lane conditions with flagging.

    Venture Construction is the prime contractor for this $466,923 high friction surface treatment project. Work includes application of a high friction surface treatment on both driving and passing lanes and new traffic line paint. Work on this project is expected to be completed by late October 2024.

    Bradford County

    A four-year reconstruction project continues on Route 199 in Sayre and Athens boroughs. The 2.6-mile project is located .44-mile north of the intersection with Route 1056 (Front Street) in Athens Borough to the intersection with Interstate 17 (Southern Tier Expressway) at the New York state line in Sayre Borough. The project begins at the New York state line and works south.

    The week of Monday, May 20, Route 199 southbound traffic will be switched to the northbound lane while the contractor begins reconstruction of the southbound lane between Pine and Vanderbilt Streets. Work on this project includes drainage improvements, utility relocations, sidewalk and curb improvements, ADA curb ramp installations, traffic signal upgrades, driveway adjustments, signing and pavement markings and other miscellaneous construction.

    Detour information:

    Northbound cars will follow a .66-mile detour using East Pine Street, Wells Avenue, and East Frederick Street. Southbound cars will be maintained in the work zone.Truck traffic will follow a 7.7-mile detour using Route 220 and Interstate 17 (Southern Tier Expressway).

    Kriger Construction is the prime contractor on this $16.4 million, four-year roadway reconstruction project. The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024.

    Route 6

    A guide rail upgrade project continues in Wyalusing, Tuscarora, and Wysox townships.

    On Monday, May 20, between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., the contractor will be performing guide rail upgrades on Route 6 between the intersection with Route 2032 (Leisure Drive) and 0.3 west the intersection with Route 1012 (Mercur Hill Road) in Wysox Township.

    Penn Line Service is the prime contractor for this $243,443 guide rail upgrade project. Work is anticipated to be completed on this project by May 24.

    Centre County

    Work continues on the South Atherton Street (Route 3014) project that stretches from Curtin Road to just north of Westerly Parkway in State College.

    The contractor plans to implement a new traffic pattern with the center (turning) lane closed and traffic passing through the work zone via the open right (travel) lane in each direction on Tuesday, May 21.

    The contractor anticipated implementing a new traffic pattern on Friday, May 17, but the weather delayed this transition. Additionally, all traffic approaching Atherton Street from the side roads, businesses, or driveways will be prohibited from making left turns or straight-through maneuvers and will be required to turn right.

    Monday, May 20, through Thursday, May 23, one crew will work between Blue Course Drive and Railroad Street on sewer and waterline installation. Another two crews will work between Beaver Avenue and Westerly Parkway to adjust manhole covers and prep for final paving and topsoil placement. The contractor will shift traffic around the work zone, with one lane remaining open in each direction around the clock.

    Crews will continue with full-depth reconstruction of the existing pavement between Logan Avenue and Center Lane. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control. The contractor will set the traffic signal at the Westerly Parkway intersection to flash mode as necessary.

    The contractor will not work on Friday, May 24, in observance of Memorial Day. However, it will keep all long-term traffic control measures and lane closures in place.

    Overall work on the project includes roadway reconstruction, drainage improvements that include pipes and inlets, water and sewer lines, concrete curbing, sidewalks and detectable warning surfaces, pavement markings, traffic signals and supports, and miscellaneous items. HRI is the contractor on this $30.7 million project. PennDOT anticipates the contractor completing the project in the fall of 2024, but all work is weather and schedule dependent.

    Clinton County

    Maintenance is planned this week for several areas of Clinton County. The following is where work will be performed:

    Base Repair:

    Route 477 between the intersection of Route 2008 (Auction Road) in Lamar Township and the Centre/Clinton County line in Greene Township, Monday, May 20, through Friday, May 24. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.

    Bridge Maintenance & Cleaning

    Route 220 between the Mill Hall/Flemington interchange in Mill Hall Borough and the Avis interchange in Pine Creek Township. Monday, May 20, through Friday, May 24. PennDOT will implement short-term lane closures while completing this work. PennDOT will implement short-term lane closures while completing this work.Interstate 80 between mile marker 170 and the Jersey Shore interchange. Monday, May 20, through Friday, May 24. This work takes place off the roadway and has minimal, if any, traffic impact.

    Manual Patching

    Route 1006 (Cemetery Street) in Dunnstable and Pine Creek townships. Monday, May 20, through Friday, May 24. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.Route 664 (Coudersport Pike) between Route 44 and Hazard Road. Wednesday, May 22, through Friday, May 24. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.

    Shoulder Maintenance

    Columbia County

    Lane restrictions will be in place this week as part of a bridge flushing project on Interstate 80.

    On Monday, May 20 through Wednesday, May 22, a PennDOT maintenance crew will be performing bridge flushing as a moving operation. Drivers can expect to encounter lane restrictions where work is being performed between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and are urged to drive with caution in the area.

    Lane closure Elk Grove Road

    A bridge rehabilitation project on Route 4049 (Elk Grove Road) will require a lane closure beginning this week in Sugarloaf Township The bridge is just north of Benton and carries Elk Grove Road over the West Branch of Fishing Creek.

    Beginning Monday, May 20, one lane will be closed at the bridge, and traffic will be maintained in both directions with a temporary traffic signal. Work is expected to take eight months to complete, weather permitting.

    Rylind Construction Company is the prime contractor on this $1.7 million project. Work includes deck replacement for the existing three-span non-composite adjacent box beam bridge with approach work to tie into the existing roadway.

    Drivers are advised to drive with caution when approaching work zones. All projects are weather dependent.
