A 21-year-old Leonardtown man was served a seven-count indictment May 6 in connection with a shooting incident that occurred earlier this year at the Applebee’s restaurant in California.

In the indictment filed in St. Mary’s County Circuit Court, defendant Jontae Lamont Proctor is charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, firearm use in a violent crime, two counts related to having a loaded handgun and illegal possession of a firearm.

An arrest warrant issued by Judge Michael J. Stamm was served by deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office on May 14.

According to court records, Proctor is being held without bond. When he was apprehended without incident May 14, Proctor was found to have a fully loaded handgun in his possession and was charged with six additional counts of firearms violations, a sheriff’s office press release stated.

The April 2 shooting at the restaurant on Miramar Way occurred shortly after 11 p.m.

According to the sheriff’s office, investigators determined there was an altercation that led to the shooting.

The person shot is identified in the indictment as Tyquan Samuel Wills, who was treated at the scene before being transported to a regional trauma center.

A sheriff’s office press release noted that deputies responding to the scene “administered life-saving measures” to the wounded man prior to his hospital transport.

The date for Proctor’s next court appearance has not been determined at this time.
