Spaghetti topped with meat sauce checks off important boxes for a satisfying meal in many situations. Number one, kids like it, and it's one of the first foods they can eat all by themselves. A cherub face shoveling handsful of spaghetti into its sauce-coated mouth is one of life's cutest visions.

Spaghetti and meat sauce can be made quickly and is perfect served with a salad for a week night meal, on a buffet table, or paired with a bottle of wine and some tasty bread for a classic candle lit dinner for two.

This recipe for spaghetti and meat sauce is very easy to make and it tastes great.

    Ingredients

    • 12 to 16 oz. spaghetti
    • 1- pound ground meat of choice (turkey, beef, plant-based, etc.)
    • 2 tablespoons oil
    • 2 cloves garlic
    • 1/2 medium bell pepper, chopped
    • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
    • 5-6 fresh mushrooms, sliced thinly (optional)
    • 24-oz. jar of tomato-based pasta sauce of choice
    • Grated Parmesan

    Directions

    1. Prepare spaghetti according to package directions. When cooked, toss with about 1/4 of the oil and set aside.
    2. Heat remaining oil in sauce pan over medium heat. Add garlic and let sizzle.
    3. Add onion and bell pepper. Cook, stirring for about 2 minutes.
    4. Add mushrooms, if using. Cook, stirring for an additional 2 to 3 minutes.
    5. Break up ground meat and add it to the pot. Blend with vegetables and brown. (If meat releases an excess of oil, you can remove it. Otherwise, it will give additional flavor to the sauce.
    6. Stir in the jarred sauce and mix well. Let simmer for about 20 minutes.
    7. Serve sauce ladled over spaghetti. Top with grated Parmesan, if desired.

    Bon apetit!
