Volunteers needed for teacher appreciation celebration

    2024-05-20

An outdoor appreciation event for Yadkin County School personnel is planned as a thank you for local teachers and staff. Pack the Park is scheduled for May 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Yadkin Valley YMCA picnic shelter.

There will be live music, BBQ, side dishes and desserts, prizes, and games. Organizers said last year, roughly 400 school personnel attended the event.

Organizers are seeking help from the community to help celebrate these deserving school staff members.

    Where is help needed?

Side dishes and desserts. All churches and faith groups are invited to help with side dishes and desserts. The name of every contributing group is listed at the event. For more details and sign up for food or to volunteer with serving, contact Jonathan Gaylord jgaylord@wnccumc.net or view the sign up here: www.mealtrain.com/potlucks/kkz4ld

Prizes: All school personnel receive free raffle tickets upon arrival at the event to choose from a display of prizes. Groups can build and provide a theme-based prize to be raffled. For example, a beach themed prize might include a pull cart with wheels and filled with beach towels, a small cooler, a beach umbrella, and/or beach games. We recommend that prizes are attractively/creatively presented for display. Average value of a themed prize is $100-$150 each prize. Your group’s name will be listed on the prize as sponsor. Groups are welcomed to include a special letter of thanks in the prize. Groups interested in providing a prize should contact Mick Bowman at mick@shallowfordfoundation.org.

Volunteers: Volunteers are needed for set up (the day before for table set up and/or about 9:30 a.m. on the 29th to decorate), trash bin emptying throughout the event, parking attendants to direct traffic, and cleanup. Volunteers can serve for just an hour or throughout the event. If you’d like to volunteer, contact Mick Bowman at mick@shallowfordfoundation.org
