Xander Schauffele has maintained consistency on the course and consistency in his bag this season – and it paid off at Valhalla as he claimed the PGA Championship for a maiden Major triumph.

The win is also a big triumph for Callaway, who supply almost all of Schauffele’s clubs.

New in his bag when compared with last season are his driver and fairway wood options.

Schauffele debuted the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond driver at the Sentry earlier this season.

He came into the PGA Championship ranked No 8 in strokes gained off the tee this season against his No 47 finish in the same stat bracket last season.

You might say this suggests that he has got a big boost from the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond driver.

The only exceptions to his all-Callaway bag come in the form of a pair of Vokey Design wedges. He uses the Titleist Vokey Design SM10 (56-10S @57) and Titleist Vokey Design WedgeWorks Proto 60 degree with a K grind.

Schauffele has been the nearly man of his generation for so long it seemed like he might never get over the line but he got his special moment in Kentucky.

“All those close calls for me,” he said, “even last week, that sort of feeling, it gets to you at some point. It just makes this even sweeter.”

His work on improving his margin for error off the tee came to fruition at Valhalla and he also managed to nail the percentage of putts he needed to finally get the big win.

“I just kept telling myself that – just weather the storm,” he said. “I knew that birdies had to be made, so there was some aggression. It wasn’t like a tournament round where I could kind of sit back and shoot 2- or 3-under. It just wasn’t going to be enough.

“I knew that I needed to have some pace on my putts, some more aggressive lines coming into pins.”

Those putts were sunk with the Odyssey Toulon Design Las Vegas Prototype that has served him well.
