Weeks after Lea Thompson volunteered on Instagram, “I think” that The Spencer Sisters won’t be back for Season 2, a rep for Canada’s CTV Television Network had confirmed for TVLine that “a second season has not been picked up at this time.”
The lighthearted procedural followed mystery novelist Victoria Spencer (played by Thompson) and her daughter Darby Spencer (Stacey Farber), who are mistaken as sisters as they tackle puzzling cases.

“I think the @ctv is not picking us up,” Thompson posted to Instagram in mid-March. “Thank you friends who enjoyed our little show!
“I am sad we won’t make more of #thespencersisters,” she continued. “I loved so much working in beautiful #winnepeg and acting with the wonderful @staceyfarber and the rest of our cast and crew. We had such joy acting together. Hoping to make you laugh with the wonderful words of our writers.”
Surveying the series’ sad fate, Thompson ventured that on CTV in early 2023, “When we got a late time slot on Friday night I was worried. And It’s a weird time with companies changing staff. Strikes. And the recalculating of our business. And we just got in the crossfire of too much change I guess.” Even so, “Our wonderful executives at @eone_tv fought the good fight!
“It was fun to be on @thecw as well. With a better time slot” (airing Wednesdays at 9/8c, from Oct. 13 through Dec. 13. 2023), she noted. “And we did well. But alas. On to new frontiers.”
On The CW, The Spencer Sisters averaged not quite 650,000 weekly viewers (with Live+7 playback), ranking No. 6 out of the nine original or acquired dramas that the netlet aired this TV season.
The Spencer Sisters ‘ Stateside lead-in, the similar Canadian Sullivan’s Crossing , did score a spot on The CW’s fall schedule, having been renewed for a second season up north.
