On X , the official Star Trek on Paramount+ account announced that Hunter would be joining the cast of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, a new series that was initially announced in 2023. “All cadets, rise for your captain! Academy Award winner Holly Hunter has officially been cast as the captain and chancellor of the upcoming [ Paramount+ ] series [Starfleet Academy,” the post reads.
Hunter is known for voicing Helen Parr/Elastigirl in 2004’s The Incredibles and 2018’s Incredibles 2. She’s also starred in movies such as 1987’s Raising Arizona, 1995’s Home for the Holidays, 2000’s O Brother, Where Art Thou?, 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and 2017’s The Big Sick.
“Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will introduce us to a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism,” the synopsis for the series reads. “Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.”

Simon Kinberg is producing a new Star Trek prequel movie
“The project is said to be set decades before the events of the 2009 movie that was directed J.J. Abrams , likely around modern times. It is said to involve the creation of the Starfleet and humankind’s first contact with alien life,” The Hollywood Reporter’s article reads.
Abrams will produce the movie, which does not yet have a release date but is eyeing a 2025 opening.
If the move proves to be a success, Kinberg will likely continue to take “active creative roles on the rest of the storied franchise’s film side.”
