    Eyes right!

Since we have Military Memorial Day (and its companion Cemetery Decoration Day) coming this weekend, I thought I would spend five minutes of your time with at least a little mention of that.

I clearly remember marching and drilling and going through the various commands that are included in all of that. I was in the Cocke County High School Big Red Marching Band for two years, and knew full well how to march when I got to Tennessee Tech’s ROTC classes and Thursdays on the drill field with a brief stint in the “Rebel Rifles” (The ROTC Drill Team).

So I clearly understood it when the command was “eyes right” and we would swivel our heads to the right as we marched to see whatever big wig was on the reviewing stand.

But, I would like to point out that “eyes right” is not just a direction!

When the eyes are “right” (as in “correct”) things just go better — in every way. The eye is one of our creator God’s most marvelous masterpieces!

Just think: telescopes et al, microscopes et al, binoculars et al, cameras of all shapes and sizes, and corrective lens (glasses) and so many more of “man’s inventions” are based squarely on God’s creation! I think God should have the patent of all these “inventions” of man! After all, He made the basic principle of the eye first — and He didn’t have to have a blueprint to go by.

It is absolutely amazing — the human eye!

I recently had cataract surgery in one eye and all I had to do was show up and the medical team did all the intense, precise, extremely detailed work!

But, after the surgery, there was a rather large list of “stuff and things” I was advised to do — told to do, really, if I wanted it to be a success!

That stuff was up to me! The medical team did their part then it was up to me to do mine! And that, dear readers, is the main thing about the main thing of this article!

Salvation is a gift — and, by definition, a gift is free! That is what makes it a gift — it is not earned, deserved, or worked for! It is a gift!

But! After the free gift of salvation is received through your repentance and faith (as seen by my “showing up” at the doctors’ locations and admitting I needed their services) there are several things we should do to make it a success! That is, if you want your salvation to truly BE a success, duplicating to others.

That IS what you want your salvation to be, isn’t it? A success, duplicating to others; not so that we can REMAIN a Believer, but so that others can BECOME believers!

It certainly should be what you desire; and it can be what you receive if you do what we simply call “living the Christian life” as much as possible! Oh, you (I) will experience failure — after all, we are still human; but as much as it is possible, we live as closely to God as possible — and see (with our spiritual eyes) our Christian Faith being duplicated many times in our short life spa!

    Don’t know how?

    I do!

And if you will accept some help from a guy who has failed many times to be what he should be but who has “gotten back up on that horse” time and time again; I will share!
