Boston vs. Belfast – a free boxing event at City Hall Plaza on Thursday

Calling all boxing enthusiasts!

Have you heard of the portal between NYC and Dublin? Well, here’s the Boston/Belfast version, except it’s not a portal. It involves in-person bouts in a boxing ring. Kind of the same, but not at all. Our point is it’s a connection – an Irish and American partnership!

On Thursday, May 23rd, Bridges Beyond Boxing presents Boston vs. Belfast! This cultural exchange program includes young boxers from Ireland, six Protestant and six Catholic, and boxers from Boston neighborhoods, Lowell and Lawrence. There will be bagpipers, a live DJ, a hospitality tent, and more!

Doors open at 5pm and the first fight is at 6pm. This is a free event, and all are welcome! Be on the lookout for Southie’s own Peter Welch from Peter Welch’s Gym!

“There’s top local talent like 2024 Golden Glove Champ Shea Wilcox and his teammate Malike Johnson defending their titles against the Belfast Bangers! It will be one of the biggest international boxing events Boston has hosted in years,” says Welch.
