    St. Peter boys and girls track and field both claim top finish in Triton Invitational

    Friday evening, the St. Peter track and field team traveled to Triton H.S. to compete in the Triton Invitational, an eight team event hosted by the Cobras. Both the boys and girls teams earned first-place finishes for the Saints with the girls scoring 187 points, 91 more than the second-place Pine Island, while the boys scored 194 points, 15 more than Byron in second.

    Highlights for the girls began with Rachel Salfer claiming fourth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.85 before Macey Portner and Noelle Simonette earned second and fourth place finishes in the 200m dash with times of 27.87 and 28.45 respectively.

    In the 400m run, Ella Dirks finished second with a time of 1:00.00 before Keira Friedrich claimed first in the 800m run with a time of 2:16.56. In the 1600m run, Lucia Penner finished third with a time of 5:46.44 while Robin Hibscher claimed fifth with a time of 6:04.08.

    In the 3200m run, Kady Thoms posted a PR time of 12:52.11 to finish first while Grace Penner finished second with a time of 13:05.76. Kyla Yost posted a PR time of 17.33 in the 100m hurdles to finish first while Rowyn Myhra finished fourth with a time of 18.53.

    Myrha then finished third in the 300m hurdles with a season-best time of 53.28 with Yost posting a time of 53.84 to finish fourth. The 4x100m relay team of Salfer, Yost, Liliana Prunty and Portner finished second in the 4x100m relay race with a time of 52.97. Salfer, Portner and Prunty then partnered with Simonette to finish first in the 4x200m relay with a time of 1:52.24.

    The 4x400m relay team of Prunty, Dirks, Simonette and Friedrich finished first with a time of 4:14.33 and the 4x800m relay team of G. Penner, Dirks, Hibscher and L. Penner claimed first with a time of 10:18.76.

    In the shot put, Kiercelyn Smith finished fifth with a top throw of 27 feet and 0.5 inches and in the long jump, Simonette finished fifth with a mark of 15’. In the pole vault, Addison Landsom finished first with a clear of 10’ while Laura Klatt (9’6”, PR), Trista Landsom (8’6”) and Kyla Yost (8’6”, PR) finished second and tied for fifth respectively.

    In the triple jump, A. Landsom finished third with a PR leap of 32’8”.

    Highlightso for the boys began with Derek Guth and Mohamed Jimale earning first and second with PR times of 22.60 and 23.46 respectively. In the 800m run, Alexander Bur posted a PR time of 2:14.54 to finish first while Kader SayidNour and Logan Bock finished third and fourth with times of 2:20.51 and 2:22.43 respectively.

    In the 1600m run, Roblae Abdi finished first with a time of 4:50.11 and in the 3200m run, Enzo Gazzola finished first with a time of 11:22.18. Corbin Herron swept the hurdles events with first in the 110m, posting a time of 14.39 before claiming first in the 300m with a time of 41.01.

    The absolute highlight of the evening came in the 4x100m relay race where Jimale, Elijah Mercado, Isai Morales and Guth teamed up to claim first with a school record breaking time of 43.73. The previous record of 43.8 was set in 1981 by the team of Jeff Wilde, Kurt Koenck, Tim Johnson and Brian Strand.

    In the 4x200m relay race, Ramiro Alcantara Alvarez, Morales, Herron and Guth finished first with a time of 1:30.61 and in the 4x800m relay race the team of Laird Bly, Gazzola, Bur and Henry Nienow finished first with a time of 9:23.03.

    Luke Banks finished first in the shot put with a toss of 52’2.75” before claiming first in the discus with a throw of 165’2”. Kemper Ely finished fourth in the high jump and in the pole vault, Brock Guth (12’) and Derek Guth (11’6”) finished first and second respectively. Morales finished his excellent day with a first-place finish in the long jump, posting a top mark of 20’1”.

    St. Peter is scheduled to return to action Wednesday, May 22, when they travel to New Prague H.S. for an invitational hosted by the Trojans.
