With the college football landscape undergoing massive changes, there is concern that some programs and conferences could be left behind.

Paul Finebaum echoed those concerns during his appearance on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning and why he's worried about the future of the Group of 5.

“It’s not in a good place,” said Finebaum. “I think because it just feels like they’re getting trampled. A school like Memphis , which you mentioned last week, or even UAB , unless there’s a second division where there’s a legitimate tournament, which is still open for conversation, I don’t think the G5 fits in very well. Primarily because the expense of being elite in college football has gone up considerably.”

The Group of 5 is guaranteed one spot in the new 12-team College Football Playoff, but it's unlikely that a team from the Group of 5 earns an at-large bid.

Finebaum mentioned a second postseason tournament for the Group of 5 that would be independent of the power conferences.

While this would give more Group of 5 programs a chance to play in the postseason, it would also mean the Group of 5 surrendering to the fact that they can't compete with the major conferences and could divide the sport into two separate leagues.

At this point, much of this is just speculation, but there is reason for concern as Group of 5 football tries to move forward.
