According to a report, major grocery chain Wegmans could be coming to the Pittsburgh area.

The Pittsburgh Business Times reports that the New York-based grocery is in “advanced negotiations to establish a new store at Cranberry Springs.”

Cranberry Springs is right near the UPMC Lemieux Sports complex, right of Interstate-79.

KDKA Radio reached out to Wegmans for a statement.

A spokesperson didn’t deny the possibility of Wegman’s coming to the area. “We are always looking for new opportunities.”

They added, “but we do not comment on specific sites unless we have negotiated a lease or purchase agreement,” said Tracy Van Auker Wegman’s Public Relations Manager.

Wegmans is very popular in the eastern part of Pennsylvania, with the closest location to Pittsburgh currently in State College.

Wegman’s was founded in Rochester, New York in 1916.

In addition to grocery, Wegman stores have a large selection of prepared foods, beer, wine and more.

Wegman’s operates over 110 stores along the East Coast with over 54,000 employees and $12.5 billion in annual sales.

We’ll keep you updated as this store develops.
