You’d be forgiven for thinking these two are an item, but as far as we know, they’re just good friends who are really good at playing up their chemistry for the camera—though that’s not to say fans really wish they’d get together IRL. “Wait are they dating irl? Cause they are so cute together,” one fan wrote on an Instagram post shared by Damian. “i don’t think they’re in a relationship at all, this was just probably for pr,” another replied.

Speaking with TVInsider, Hardung explained that James and Ruby’s love for each other in the show is strong. “I hope that the message of the show really holds up ,” the actor said. “When there’s love, there’s nothing in between that can stop them. Actors who play up their chemistry to promote their work

It’s common for lead actors to play up their chemistry to promote their work. Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney are the most notable example in recent times during their promo of the rom-com Anyone But You . The two addressed the media frenzy around the speculated romance.

“It’s a rom-com,” she told Variety . “That’s what people want! Glen and I don’t really care. We have so much fun together, and we respect each other so much; he’s such a hard worker, and I’m a hard worker. We’re excited for the press tour, and I literally just left ADR with him. We talk all the time like, ‘That’s really funny.’”

“They want it,” Sweeney said. “It’s fun to give it to ’em.” Director Will Gluck praised her sensibilities when it came to the rumors. “Sydney is brilliant at a lot of things, including how to deal with social media; she didn’t emotionally internalize it. It was crazy, but after a while it became normal.”

While promoting with the film the two leaned into the romance speculation to the point where Hoda Kotb asked them on Today if there was any chemistry. “Yes,” they both nodded. However, they immediately shut down the romance rumors between them. “No, but we do love each other. And, honestly, this is one of the most spectacular humans I’ve ever met,” Powell replied while looking into Sweeney’s eyes. “She’s really great.”

In an interview with Glamour, Sweeney went in depth about how the rumors affected both of them . “It was really hard on Glen, which made me sad… because [otherwise] it was such a beautiful experience for the both of us. I care for him so much,” she says.
