After receiving their diplomas, some 2024 Matoaca High School graduates and family members noticed the school’s name was misspelled. The date was also printed as June instead of May.

A Chesterfield County Public Schools spokesperson said the school is waiting for corrected copies of the diplomas.

A message was sent to the families of the graduates after the commencement ceremony on May 20:

“Greetings, Class of 2024, Congratulations on your graduation from Matoaca High School. It was a great day to be a Warrior! Following the ceremony, we were made aware of a misspelling of our school name on some of the diplomas. As such, we have reached out to Jostens to have the error corrected and ordered a new diploma for each of our Matoaca Class of 2024 graduates. A message will be sent once the new diplomas have arrived so ALL Warriors can receive their proper diploma. Enjoy your day, Class of 2024!”

    Errors on official documents

Errors printed on official documents are more common than people realize. Sometimes errors are caught after documents are printed but before they are delivered. So, the recipients never saw the mistake as those in the Matoaca community did.

My certificate showed a mistake when I graduated with a Master's degree in 1998. The document was corrected quickly for the entire graduating class.
