(Alabama)- Tuskegee University is one of many historically black universities located in Alabama. Well-known individuals such as Lionel Richie, Keenan Wayans, Betty Shabazz, and Al Green are only a few to name, according to Edu Rank.

While each alumnus decided upon their path after graduating, one recently requested a pardon from President Joe Biden, per CNN.

    Who is Marilyn Mosby?

She's Built for This reported that Marilyn Mosby graduated from Tuskegee University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science in 2002.

After leaving Tuskegee, Mosby was awarded the Council on Legal Educational Opportunity, Thurgood Marshall Scholarship, and subsequently earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Boston College Law School.

In 2015, Mosby became known to many after she charged six police officers with the death of Freddy Gray.

Now, Mosby has found herself dealing with legal problems after being found guilty on two counts of making false statements on loan applications for vacation homes and two counts of perjury.

    CNN's article states:

A federal grand jury indicted Mosby in January 2022 after authorities said she lied on the application by indicating she had “adverse financial consequences” due to the COVID- 19 pandemic – even though she earned a gross salary of $247,955.58 that was “never reduced” in 2020, according to an indictment. She also failed to disclose she owed $45,000 in federal back taxes, it says.
She also allegedly said she would be the primary resident at one of the homes in order to secure a lower rate when she had already entered into an agreement with a rental management firm, the indictment says. She sold one of the homes for a $150,000 profit.

    Pardon Me Please

CBS News reported that on May 20, 2024, Mosby's attorney filed documents petitioning for probation instead of incarceration. The attorney's submission emphasized the potential adverse consequences that imprisonment would have on her children.

Throughout the months, Mosby has been interviewed by multiple platforms and continues to claim her innocence.

I have been accused of doing something I have not done. I'm innocent. I'm facing 40 years for withdrawing funds from my retirement savings.

Mosby faces up to 40 years in federal prison but prosecutors have requested for her to serve 20 months behind bars. Prosecutors have also asked for her condo to be seized. The sentencing date has been set for May 23.

Thus far, Biden has pardoned 24 people throughout his term in office.
