Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot just gained momentum, as the studio has hired writer Michael Lesslie for its screenplay. The X-Men reboot is expected to be teased in this summer's Deadpool & Wolverine, with the film arriving in theaters after the next two Avengers sequels.
As reported by Deadline , Lesslie is the first person to board the project, as no direct or release date has been attached to the film. Lesslie is known for writing The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, the Assassin's Creed movie, and Michael Fassbender's Macbeth.
While Marvel Studios has been working on an X-Men reboot for a while now, the wild success of X-Men '97 has hastened the process. The first tease of X-Men was included in the ending of Ms. Marvel, where it was revealed that Kamala Khan is the MCU's first confirmed mutant. Following that, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's villain Namor was also confirmed to be a mutant.
The X-Men hype continues in Deadpool & Wolverine this summer, and Marvel has already started to lay the seeds for the MCU's mutants in other projects. Last year's The Marvels featured a post-credits scene showing Monica Rambeau coming face-to-face with Kelsey Grammer's Beast .
While it's not confirmed yet, the X-Men reboot will most likely feature a new cast donning the spandex costumes. It may not be even called X-Men, as MCU chief Kevin Feige has referred to the project as "The Mutants" during 2019's San Diego Comic-Con.
