It’s that time of year, and all you hobby gardeners know what I’m talking about… growing season! The time to get our hands in the soil , feet on top of the mulch, and mind on the plants. One of the first crops that are ready for harvesting come spring is… strawberries ! There really isn’t anything quite as frustrating as frustrating as saving that small berry until it's perfectly ripe on the vine only to discover it has been munched on by pests. Well, one novice gardener has a brilliant solution that keeps the ants away from your berries so you can enjoy them first! Check it out.

Organic gardening is a method of working with the natural world to successfully grow food. Not using artificial agriculture chemicals like pesticides to control bugs, diseases or weeds. Organic gardening focuses on using products that are natural and break down easily, like using neem oil to deter pests, or using compost to feed them.

This gardener found that the pests that were causing her strawberry plants the most harm were ants and the fact that there were so many made catching them almost impossible. To rid her precious berry plants from these fire ant intruders she sprayed them and the soil with cinnamon bark oil, making the ants march far away from the scent of something they despise!

    Another Eco-Friendly Pest Control Option

Diatomaceous Earth is a great eco-friendly option nd its easy to use on you plants. This fine white powder is made from fossilized remains of tiny aquatic organisms called diatoms, which when get on the skin of insects dries them out instantly, killing them, which makes for quite the protective coating on plants!

Don’t go overboard but dust this powder on the tops and stems of your plants down to the base to give an even protective coating. Pro tip, use a shifter or fine mesh strainer to apply it!

Apply once it starts to wash away or lighten up, or of course if you see and infestation!
