St. Benedict’s Episcopal School got approval Tuesday from the Cobb Board of Commissioners to add less than an acre of land to the property where it plans to build a new middle school beginning in either 2025 or 2026. The commission continued the case from its April meeting, but it approved the request without any debate or discussion, as part of its consent agenda. Jennifer Hall

A Smyrna Christian school this week got approval to add a sliver of land to its new middle school campus, while a major mixed-use development near the Battery Atlanta will soon move forward on its second phase.

The Cobb Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the request from St. Benedict’s Episcopal School to add a 0.65-acre tract to its property at Cooper Lake Road and Daniel Street, where it intends to build a middle school with a gym and outdoor classroom for 240 students in 2025 or 2026.

Commissioners approved the request, which also included a revision to the site plan for the new campus, as part of its consent agenda at their latest zoning hearing.

While residents living near the site said at the commission’s April zoning hearing that they were concerned about density and traffic related to the request, none protested the move at this week’s meeting.

The commission also approved a revised site plan and parking study for Nebraska-based Goldenrod Companies to begin work on its 250-room hotel, the second phase of its new pair of towers on Circle 75 Parkway. The hotel across from Truist Park will be known as “The Henry” in honor of Braves baseball great Hank Aaron.

According to county zoning documents, the first tower of the project, a 514-unit multifamily development, is nearly complete.

In addition to the hotel, which will include a restaurant, retail, a lounge and banquet facilities, the second tower will include 186 multifamily units.
