Five Madras White Buffalo softball players earned Tri-Valley Conference All-League honors.
Ashley Camas, a senior, made the second team as a utility player. The other four Buffs — Hailee Kathrein, Rylan Davis, Brooklin Anderson and Kiera Tortalita — earned honorable mention.
Camas had a .410 batting average and led the team with 17 RBIs. She played every position in the infield this year, and played outfield and pitched.
“Ashley is super versatile and played anywhere we asked her to without complaint,” said MHS coach Shawna McConnell. “She’s an amazing teammate and plays with heart.”
Along with Camas, Davis and Tortalita are both graduating and McConnell noted that both will be missed.
Davis hit .348 this season and had a .905 fielding percentage usually playing at second base. Tortalita was the team’s most consistently effective pitcher.
“Rylan is a very athletic player who leads by example,” said McConnell. “She’s an amazing kid. Her presence on the field strengthens our team.”
The coach noted Tortalita came on strong as a pitcher this season and became the team’s top pitcher by the end of the season. She worked with coach Donnie Bagley to develop good spin on her pitches.
The coach is expecting her two honored underclassmen, Kathrein and Anderson, to be team leaders next season.
“Hailee is extremely motivated and fast, a hard worker,” said McConnell. Kathrein had a .361 batting average and seven stolen bases. She was a pitcher and shortstop for the Buffs.
Anderson came on very strong at season’s end. The freshman had a .412 batting average and smacked six doubles, two triples and a home run. She was also very solid behind the plate as catcher. McConnell praised her passion for the game.
The Dalles catcher Jeilane Stewart was named the player of the year; Crook County senior Raelynn Weaver was named pitcher of the year, and The Dalles head coach Lindy Macnab is coach of the year.
The Dalles, which won the league championship, placed seven players on the all-league first team and added one on the second team and one honorable mention.
The White Buffalos finished 4-11 in league, 6-15 overall.
