BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo police officer sustained injuries in a hit-and-run crash on an I-190 exit ramp Wednesday night, according to local authorities.

The accident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. when a white Chevrolet struck a patrol vehicle on the exit ramp of I-190 southbound at Porter Avenue. The force of the collision caused the police vehicle to veer off the road and onto the sidewalk, resulting in significant damage.

Immediately following the crash, the driver of the Chevrolet fled the scene. However, police were able to locate the vehicle a short time later, leading to the apprehension of the driver.

The injured officer was promptly transported to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC), where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The identity of the officer has not been released, but officials confirmed that they are expected to make a full recovery.

Buffalo police have questioned the driver of the Chevrolet, and charges are currently pending. Details regarding the driver's identity and the potential charges have not been disclosed as the investigation continues.

The incident highlights the dangers law enforcement officers face daily while performing their duties. Buffalo Police Department officials have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of their officers and have expressed relief that the injuries sustained were not more severe.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward. The investigation remains active, and updates will be provided as more details become available.

This hit-and-run incident is a stark reminder of the critical need for caution and responsibility on the roads. Buffalo police are working diligently to bring justice to the injured officer and to reinforce the message that such reckless behavior will not be tolerated.
