Walker Public Library urges families to go to the library and sign up for Read, Renew, Repeat

Walker Public Library launches it Read, Renew, Repeat summer reading program June 4.

Everyone is invited to the kick off event that will include snacks, activities, crafts and games for families and all ages starting at 1 p.m. Register your kiddos to participate in the two-month program so they can win prizes for reaching their reading goals.

“We’ve planned a wonderful program for kids to make the library a great place to read, learn, and discover what’s available for their enjoyment,” said Branch Manager Carol Christensen.

Themed events include art classes, a magic show, one-act play performance, special story times and author visits. Every week will have different events for kids of all ages to enjoy, as well as a chance to turn in their log sheets for prizes like stickers, books, art supplies and more.

There’s also a serious side to summer reading. Research has shown that reading over the summer prevents summer reading loss.

“Studies also indicate students who read recreationally outperformed those who don’t. Students read more when they can choose materials based on their own interests,” Christensen added. “Our library is committed to supporting lifelong learning and educational enrichment for all families.”

Registration continues through the month of July, but the sooner kids get registered the more opportunities they’ll have to reach their goals.
