Cherokee Schools Graduates Headed to U.S. Service Academies, Military Service

Over 70 members of the Cherokee County School District’s Class of 2024 have committed to military service, including five graduates selected to attend U.S. service academies, the district announced.
Enrollment at U.S. Service Academies is very limited, and appointees are selected based on outstanding academic achievement, athletic accomplishments, demonstrated leadership and school and community service.
The five appointees are:
- Lucas Hubert of Creekview High School — U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where he will play football as well.
- Connor Lawlor of Etowah High School — U.S. Coast Guard Academy
- Kevin Maurer of Woodstock High School — U.S. Naval Academy, where he will play baseball as well.
- Cal Schubert of Creekview High School — U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where he will play football as well.
- Sydney Watson of Cherokee High School — U.S. Air Force Academy. Sydney also earned one of 100 U.S. Air Force JROTC J—100 Character—in—Leadership Scholarship presented worldwide.
