It’s time to celebrate graduations of all sorts, and that very special Sunday in June, Father’s Day.

This year Father’s Day falls on Sunday, June 16, and millions of fathers will receive a tie, golf balls or maybe a set of tools. While graduates will probably find themselves with a sea of gift cards, practical but a bit impersonal. Maybe they will use them, or maybe the cards will languish in a drawer, until they are one day rediscovered, and hopefully the issuing business…is still in business. But it doesn’t need to be that way!

How, you say, do I avoid the indignity of a boring gift? Well come take a walk on the West side…West of Ambaum Boulevard that is! In charming Olde Burien, Paper Delights awaits filled to the brim with interesting, affordable and unique gifts for dads and grads of all sorts of persuasions.

Owner Alicia Olsen has invested in an array of merchandise that is abundant. Take the two tables of Father’s Day suggestions. You’ll find things to delight the fishing dad, including books and gadgets to make their next excursion both fun and successful. The camping dad will love the trail guides, or pictorial books of our national parks with breathtaking photos to inspire trips for years to come. Grilling dad will love the variety of locally sourced grilling spices and rubs, you can delight jokester dad with so many clever and humorous cards and novelties that will spark a laugh today and a fond memory later. There is even a whole section devoted to personal luxuries, such as beard balms, shaving brushes and much more for the well-groomed dad.

When we visited, the selection of options was striking. So we wondered what was the inspiration guiding Olsen’s selections?

“Well,” she said, “I created a shop for people like me who are really busy, and we don’t usually have time to even think about buying gifts until it’s close to an event or holiday… I needed a place where I could find something cool and thoughtful, get a nice card and walk out with it wrapped and ready to go. Now everyone can benefit from the work I’ve already done, in finding all these great thing in one efficient place.”

While an anchor of her business will always be the high quality card and paper goods collections, many of which she designs herself, Olsen has also created fun location tees and sweatshirts so you can show your Burien, Normandy Park or Des Moines pride and give it also! Why not send your graduate off to college or work with a little reminder of where they come from?

Speaking of graduates, other terrific options are high quality Moleskine journals, the genuine article of course. Or perhaps Olsen’s favorite book to give, “Manifest, 7 Steps to Living Your Best Life” which she says “…everyone should read. It’s a must!” You’ll also find practical and whimsical tokens to celebrate their accomplishment.

Paper Delights is a true destination shop that is worth checking out for many other occasions as well, birthdays, anniversaries, baby and bridal showers are covered. And all lickety-split, thanks to the carefully curated selections. Check out this fun video for a virtual visit, then head on out to Olde Burien to cross off your to-do list, or enjoy some retail recreation. We know you’ll be charmed by this ”little shop on the corner.”
