They made great planting progress until weeks of rain set in during May, slowing field activity in the area and raising the prospect of some replanting.“I started (planting) March 20,” he said. “It was probably two weeks ahead of schedule.”Slack farms in Henry and Johnson counties in west-central Missouri and he said he is just about finished planting, although he is expecting some replanting.“We’re pretty well done with the first time,” he said.The corn is all done, and the small amount he has left to plant is soybeans.<h2>People are also reading…</h2>A rainy month of May dramatically slowed planting after the quick start.“It was a piece of cake until it started raining and wouldn’t stop,” Slack said.One rain event left crops in standing water.“We’ve got a little replant,” Slack said. “Most of what I’ve got is because we had almost 9 inches in a real short period.”In the meantime, Slack continues to watch the forecasts and rain chances as he makes plans. Speaking on May 10, he was looking to get some hay put up if there was enough time between rain chances.“I was debating mowing my alfalfa,” he said.</div></body>
