Rain Dampens But Doesn't Deter Farmers' Market Shoppers on Memorial Weekend

Morning rain showers dampened but did not deter determined Marietta Farmers Market shoppers who braved the threatening clouds on Saturday.

Marking the unofficial kickoff of the summer selling season, eager buyers packed into Marietta Farmers Market stalls seeking the best buys on fresh vegetables, Georgia peaches, homemade baked goods and arts and crafts.

Lines up to 25 people longed wrapped around one stand offering early-season Georgia peaches and fresh blueberries. Lucky buyers grabbed small and large bags of peaches early, then carried their heavy loads to the remainder of the stalls. Some even bought the juicy prizes by the carton, straining to carry two and three of the large boxes to nearby cars.

Sellers set-up their stands in large numbers, too, ready for the summer selling season when the market attracts its largest crowds. The three rows along the main area were filled to the max with stalls, with the arts and crafts stands just across the street nearly at seller capacity, too.

Marietta Square Farmers Market operates year round. The market opens on Saturdays at 9 a.m, and operates to noon. Find more information on the market at the website.
