2025 Duncanville (Tex.) shooting guard BJ Davis-Ray is one of the top prospects in America, sitting in the Top 100 prospects nationally. Now that the 6-5 guard is healthy, he’s ready to put on a show.

“I was injured last summer, so I didn’t really get to show the things I could do, but this summer I’m back healthy, so I’m just out there playing my game,” Davis-Ray told On3. “I’m defending at a high level, making others better, and just impacting the game in different ways.

“I feel like I have high-level shot making. I feel like in my eyes I’m a knockdown shooter. I feel like I can hit any shot on the floor.”

His recruitment is picking up as the summer approaches. Four programs are talking with him a lot — LSU , Kansas, Alabama and SMU .

New LSU assistant coach Jalen Courtney-Williams extended an offer to Davis-Ray, who is originally from Saint Louis. Courtney-Williams is doing a good job early on in his recruitment.

“I’ve had a relationship with him. He was at Creighton,” Davis-Ray said. “When he went over to LSU, he called me right away. I’m thankful for that, for him doing that. He’s always checking in on me, asking me about my family. That’s pretty big to me. Just checking in on my life outside of basketball.”

The feel around LSU is one that impresses the Dallas area standout.

“I feel like when you go there, you’re like a celebrity automatically,” he said. “Soon as you get on campus, you’re having success with their craft. They’re gonna take care of you. They’re gonna show you lots of love.”

    Other high-majors circling for Davis-Ray

Kansas is also involved with head coach Bill Self and assistant coach Jeremy Case are making a big push for him.

“Coach Self, he’s one of the best to ever do it. I’ve been talking to coach Case. He’s telling me I’ve been having a solid summer and just keep producing, keep doing well. I have a lot of respect for those guys over there.

“It’s a basketball town. It feels like it’s tradition over there. I took a visit there about last year. I went to one of their a little scrimmage games and they brought Shaq out. Just playing at that arena, it’s different. They have one of the best environments in college basketball.”

The Alabama staff is turning up the heat as well with assisatnt Ryan Pannone leading the way.

“Alabama had a great season,” he said. “They run NBA type sets. They send me some things here and there, different finishes and different moves that I could do. Coach Ryan, he used to coach in the NBA. So I’m trying to soak up everything he’s telling me. That’s where I’m trying to go.”

SMU hosted him on a visit before the summer really heated up. SMU head coach Andy Enfield and his staff on the Hilltop got a chance to make an initial impression on the four-star prospect.

“It was great. The staff, they were great to me,” Davis-Ray said. “They were just telling me how much they they like my game and how well I will fit up there. I appreciate them for believing in me. He (Enfield) knows what he’s doing. He’s been around pros, so he’s not new to this at all. He definitely knows what he’s talking about. The ACC is one of the best conferences in college basketball.”

When it comes to a decision, he’s not sure when he’d like to sign, but knows what he’s looking for.

“Where they’re gonna push me to get better every day. I can take that hard coaching. Somewhere I’m getting that development for the next level and just expanding my game.”

According to the On3 Industry Ranking , a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Davis-Ray ranks as the No. 66 overall prospect in the country and No. 15 shooting guard in the nation. Kansas leads the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine .
