Expanding opportunities for early education: Menominee County ISD to operate Great Start Readiness Program at Central Elementary School

    2024-05-26

MENOMINEE — The Menominee County Intermediate School District (ISD) has announced the expansion of early education services in partnership with Menominee Area Public Schools (MAPS). As part of an initiative to enhance access to quality pre-kindergarten education, the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) will now be operated out of the Central Elementary School building with more classrooms dedicated to preschool.

This development comes as Central Elementary School prepares to close its doors and merge with Blesch Intermediate to form the newly renamed Menominee Elementary School. By repurposing the Central Elementary facility, the Menominee County ISD will be able to provide a dedicated space for the GSRP, ensuring that more children in our community have access to a strong educational foundation.

Beginning this fall, most Menominee County children aged 4 by Sept. 1 will likely qualify for the Great Start Readiness Program. For families who exceed the income threshold, affordable tuition fees will be available, ensuring that cost is not a barrier to accessing quality early education.

“We are dedicated to meeting the needs of the MAPS community and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive,” said Steve Martin, Superintendent of Menominee County ISD. “By expanding the GSRP and leveraging the resources of Central Elementary School, we are taking a significant step towards building a stronger educational foundation for our children.”

Intermediate School Districts (ISDs) serve as a vital link between the Michigan Department of Education and the local public school districts in its jurisdiction, according to a press release from Menominee County ISD. Committed to excellence in education, the ISD works tirelessly to support the academic success of students and the professional growth of educators, the release states. The Menominee County ISD is proud to fulfill this role and looks forward to continuing to collaborate with MAPS to enhance educational opportunities for all students, according to the release.

For more information about the GSRP program and enrollment details, people can contact the ISD at 906-863-5665 ext 1010.
