Griswold Baseball is Thriving in Statistics and Eyeing Wins to Start Season

(Griswold, IA) – The Griswold Tigers started off week one with a 1-2 overall record after beating Audubon in their first game 11-1 and losing by just two runs to both Exira-EHK and Stanton in games two and three. Wins this season aren’t going to come easy, but they are going to continue to see their hard work pay off in the win column. Head Coach Ryan Lockwood’s young talent has the experience and that experience is going to their benefit early in the year.

Brayden Lockwood started in Thursday’s game against Exira-EHK where he pitched three straight three-up, three-down innings to start off the ballgame. While giving up a few runs in the fourth inning, he was consistent throughout the ballgame and held his team with the Spartans all night long. The Tigers feature quite a few key starters who can help eat up innings and stay consistent including Body Wyman, Kolbe Klindt, and Nollan Smith.

As a team, the Tigers are currently hitting .322 at the plate with a .479 on-base percentage through three games. The only thing that this team has struggled with is strikeouts, in which they have struck out 37 times as a team. While strikeouts will happen in games, Coach Lockwood is aiming for that number to go down as the weeks wind down.

Looking ahead for Griswold, they’re going to continue conference play as they battle the Sidney Cowboys. Griswold may statistically beat out Sidney in just about every stat down the line, but the Tigers will still be going against some tough pitching and will have to get past their top hitter Michael Hensley.

Griswold takes on Sidney tomorrow at home, starting at 7:30 p.m.
