    Memorial Day events and ceremonies around the region

    REGIONAL - While family gatherings, picnics, a day of from work (for some of us) and barbecues are a great way to spend the holiday weekend, it's important to remember what Memorial Day stands for. It's about honoring and remembering the ultimate sacrifices made by those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces. They are the American Heroes who gave their lives so we could live free.

    There are plenty of ways to honor those who served in our region. These are just a few of the many ceremonies and services happening around the area:

    BENTON COUNTY

    Kennewick

    Riverview Heights Cemetery - 1200 S. Olympia St.

    9 a.m.

    Desert Lawn Memorial Park - 1401 S. Union St.

    11 a.m.

    Richland

    Sunset Gardens - 915 Bypass Highway

    10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

    Skydivers, LIVE music, free food

    Guest Speaker: Ret. Maj. Scotty Smiley

    FRANKLIN COUNTY

    Pasco

    Memorial Day Remembrance

    City View Cemetery - 1300 N Oregon Ave.

    11 a.m.

    Patriotic Songs, wreath presentation, flag-raising ceremony

    MORROW COUNTY

    Mount Gilead

    Bryn Zion Cemetery

    10:30 a.m. - Ceremony

    Mount Gilead Memorial Day Parade

    12:30 p.m. - Cherry Street School, then ceremony at Veteran's Park

    1:30 p.m. - Ceremonies begin at River Cliff Cemetery
