WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – It’s the final stretch of former president Donald Trump’s hush money trial out of New York.

After more than four weeks of testimony and witnesses, the case will soon be in the hands of the jury.

Prosecutors and lawyers for former president Trump will each make their closing arguments in the case. It’s their final opportunity to address the jurors.

“Unlike Joe Biden, I don’t throw people in jail for disagreeing with me. I don’t do that,” said Trump.

Trump took shots at his democratic rival Joe Biden as he continued on the campaign trail over the weekend and looked ahead to his fate in the hush money trial.

“Imposing a strict gag order in order to keep me from talking about their crimes and their unconstitutional acts,” said Trump.

The jury must consider 34 charges against the Republican nominee and if he is found guilty, he could face prison time.

“There’s no crime so I’m assume that they will actually find him innocent,” said Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.).

South Carolina Senator Tim Scott defended the former president saying Trump is not guilty.

“The only person guilty in that courtroom is D.A. Bragg, guilty of corrupting the justice system, guilty of not doing his job and guilty of trying to frame an innocent man,” said Scott.

If the jury finds Trump not guilty on all 34 counts the prosecution will not be allowed to try the former president again.

“We want to see fairness. No thumb on the scales if that’s the case. He will be found innocent,” said Scott.

Deliberations are expected to start Wednesday. There’s no way of knowing how long it could take for the jury to reach a verdict.

If the jury can’t reach a verdict, then the judge will declare a mistrial. The Manhattan D.A. can then choose to retry the case with a new jury but that might be difficult with the political calendar as the November election draws near.
