The average price for a gallon of gas in Pennsylvania rose less than a penny this week to $3.764 pergallon, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report.

In the Lehigh Valley the price dropped slightly. The average price for a gallon of gas on May 28 was $3.677 as compared to $3.679 on May 21.

Prices are relatively close, but still higher than this time last year. On May 28, 2023 the average price for a gallon of gas was $3.628.

As the “unofficial beginning of the summer driving season” begins, gas prices are mostly stable across the country. AAA said today’s national average is $3.586, which is 1.2 cents less than a week ago, 7.1 cents cheaper than a month ago and .8 cent higher than a year ago.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand rose from 8.87 million b/d to 9.31. Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline stocks decreased slightly from 227.8 to 226.8 million barrels, while gasoline production increased, averaging 10 million daily barrels.

AAA said it will continue to monitor gasoline demand in the coming weeks, as increased road trips could drive up prices at the pump.
