NPR claims that climate deaths in the US are undercounted. It does not offer exact proof but does have some anecdotal evidence. There are no solid statistics on annual US deaths from climate change. The CDC reports that, as of this month, 2,032 Americans have died from “heat-related” causes. Not included are deaths from other events, which include hurricanes and tornados that kill dozens of Americans every year. Climatecrisis247 believes that NPR is correct but that the extent of deaths will only be a guess until the federal government keeps complete statistics. These statistics would likely show that climate-related deaths have risen in recent years.

Climate Science –The Role Of Tiny Satellites

The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco recently published a study titled “Impact of U.S. Labor Productivity Losses from Extreme Heat.” It focuses on the agriculture, mining, and construction industries. There is already evidence that construction workers either have to stop work or risk health problems on hot days in places like Phoenix. The city had 54 days last year when temperatures topped 110 degrees F. The authors wrote, “The labor productivity losses in construction today could have long-lasting effects on the U.S. economy because construction is important for investment. Investment is the purchase of capital in the form of goods or services. Thus, if extreme heat lowers investment today, then it will slow the accumulation of capital for future use and have long-lasting impacts on economic outcomes.” Climatecrisis247 believes that, while this is a new, extensive analysis, it does not point out anything unique. While many companies are reluctant to shut down operations due to heat, the ability of workers to do their jobs when temperatures rise into the triple digits is bound to drop.

AI Help Save World’s Climate Trouble

According to The World Economic Forum, AI can significantly affect the practical uses of climate research. In a research paper titled “Post breakthrough: How AI can lift climate research out of the lab and into the real world, ” the authors point out, “The world is making big bets on technology’s role in the climate crisis. Across the globe, scientists and technologists are pushing for the next wave of breakthroughs in climate adaptation and mitigation.” Further, the amount of data available to interpret and forecast climate information is beyond current calculation methods. “Earth science has been seen as “data messy” due to complex Earth systems and unstructured environmental data from observational methods. Recently, the volume of such data has exploded, with over 100 terabytes of satellite imagery collected daily. Yet, this doesn’t simplify the data’s unstructured nature. AI is key to organizing and down-scaling this vast data for local applications.” Climatecrisis247 believes that AI is the most significant advance in climate sciences in decades. It will allow for more accurate forecasts and more effective ways to combat the effects of destructive human activity on the climate change cycle.

    Mountain Risk Of Climate Crisis

The Stockholm Environment Institute has published a new report titled “Peak focus: addressing the increasing impacts of climate change on mountains.” The authors point out that 10 million people live in “the world’s highest reaches.” Additionally, one billion people live in mountain regions, which comprise about a quarter of the Earth’s surface. Temperatures in mountain areas are rising more quickly than in most other places.  “Because climate impacts are often more profound in mountains, mountain livelihoods are particularly sensitive to climate change. The reliance of rural mountain communities on their local environment and the ecosystem services it provides makes them highly vulnerable to the impacts,” the authors wrote. Climatecrisis247 believes that mountain regions can be added to the massive number of places where climate change affects people and the economy. This includes, for example, parts of India where tens of millions can barely survive for long periods because of high temperatures.
