Dance Moms Alum Kelly Hyland Reveals Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Onetime Dance Moms mom Kelly Hyland has revealed that, eight months after receiving clean results on a mammogram, she has been diagnosed with invasive carcinoma grade 3.

Hyland and her daughters Paige and Kelly were original cast members of the Lifetime reality series, but left the show midway through its original eight-season run.

“The first red flag was my significant weight loss,” Hyland told E! News , “but there was nothing I had changed in my day-to-day to cause the loss.”

After detecting a lump in her breast in late March, Hyland booked herself a mammogram. “I had just had one done eight months prior and the results came back clean,” she said. “However, this new mammogram and sonogram did not. It came back showing a mass” — one that a biopsy confirmed was malignant, and fast-growing.

“I was shocked that it had grown that quickly,” Hyland said, “and scared of the battle I knew I was about to face.”

Hyland — who is currently on the second of six initial chemotherapy treatments, to be followed by surgery, radiation, and then 11 more treatments — is continuing to tape her Dear Dance Mom… podcast (with Maddie and Kenzie Ziegler’s mom Melissa, Nia Sioux’s mom Holly and Kendall Vertes’ mom Jill)and her Back to the Barre podcast (with Chloé Lukasiak’s mom Christi).
