Man sentenced for Sharpe Hospital attack

WESTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — A man has been sentenced for attacking a William R. Sharpe, Jr. Hospital employee while he was a patient there last August .

The Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney said in a press release that James Moore was sentenced on May 10 to spend six to 15 years in prison, following his February trial where he was found guilty of malicious assault on a healthcare worker.

The attack, according to a criminal complaint filed at the time, happened on Aug. 13 when the employee was conducting a hall check and Moore “came up behind him and hit him in the head multiple times.”

The victim suffered several fractures to the head and needed to undergo surgery after the attack.
