Drivers traveling on SR 153 in Hamilton County should be aware of upcoming road construction activities that will have an impact on traffic

Chattanooga, TN – According to the state officials, Tennessee Valley Authority contract crews are set to commence weekend closures of the SR 153 bridge over the Chickamauga Dam for resurfacing activities.

Notably, only one direction of SR 153 will be closed at a time. This construction will unfold over several weekends, excluding Independence Day weekend.

Once the southbound side of SR 153 is refurbished (anticipated duration of 3 – 4 weekends), attention will shift to the northbound side (also estimated to take 3 – 4 weekends).

Commencing Friday, May 31, 2024, at 9:00 pm ET until Monday, June 3, 2024, at 6:00 am ET, the SR 153 South bridge will be closed for repairs.

A clearly marked detour will guide drivers around the closure.

Detour for SR 153 South:

1. Exit onto SR 319 South, DuPont Parkway.

2. Continue on SR 319 towards Amnicola Highway.

3. Merge right to rejoin SR 153 South.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution while navigating this area. Queue trucks and law enforcement will be on-site to assist.
