WALMART customers have just one week remaining to submit a claim for up to $500 cash.

A class action lawsuit has resulted in a $45 million settlement between consumers and the grocer.

Walmart customers have until June 5 to file a claim as part of a $45 million class action lawsuit against the store.

The lawsuit claims that the retailer allowed customers to buy certain weighted groceries for more than the lowest in-store advertised price.

Plaintiffs accused the retailer’s point-of-sale machines of artificially raising the weight of goods when they were marked at a discounted “Rollback” price.

This would cause the total price paid to be more than the advertised discount.

This inaccuracy concerned both weighted goods and bagged citrus.

    WHAT ARE WEIGHTED GOODS?

Weighted goods include variable-weight meat, poultry, pork and seafood products labeled with a price-embedded bar code and designated by Walmart as part of its Department 93 products.

Bagged citrus refers to organic oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, and navel oranges sold in bulk in mesh or plastic bags.

What's more, Walmart allegedly advertised bagged produce as containing more than the actual weight of the product, meaning customers paid more per ounce than they believed.

Sold-by-weight products on clearance with a reduced-price sticker were also different in price from the advertised price-per-pound and the price paid at the checkout.

Although Walmart has not admitted any wrongdoing, it has agreed to a $45 million payout to resolve the claims.

    ELIGIBILITY CRITIERIA

Customers don't need a receipt to make a claim, but claims are made under penalty of perjury.

What's more, the amount payable to each claimant is higher if they do have a receipt.

Claimants without a receipt will receive $25 if they can attest to buying 101 products or more during the eligible time frame.

A minimum of 50 products must have been purchased to receive any kind of payment, starting from $10.

    What's a class-action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or 'classes,' a way to band together in court.

These suits are often brought by one or a few people who allege a company or other entity has wronged a large group of people.

When a suit becomes a class action, it extends to all "class members," or people who may have similar complaints to those who filed the suit.

Companies often settle class actions - offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue further legal action by accepting money.

These payout agreements frequently include statements by the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination, or false advertising are a few examples of what can land a class action on a company's doorstep.

However, those with receipts may receive as much as $500.

Approved claimants with receipts or proof of purchase will be given back 2% of the amount they paid for related goods, up to $500.

To qualify, claimants must have made their purchases during the time period October 19, 2018 to January 19, 2024.

Only shoppers in the US and Puerto Rico are eligible to make a claim.

All claims must be submitted via online form by June 5 on a dedicated website.
