As first reported by sister site THR , The Chosen ‘s Season 4 premiere will be released exclusively to The Chosen app on Sunday, June 2 at 7/6c, with Episode 2 following on Thursday, June 6 at 8:30 pm. Subsequent episodes will release Sundays and Thursdays, over the course of four weeks.
Addition broadcast and streaming partners will be announced at a later date, though TVLine hears that The CW — which aired Seasons 1 through 3 back-to-back-to-back last summer through Christmas Eve — is likely to again offer a Stateside home, sometime later this year.
Season 4 premiered in proper theaters, beginning Feb. 1 and through at least the end of March, all via Fathom Events screenings in the U.S. and Canada.
Series EP Dallas Jenkins revealed in a March 10 YouTube video that a non-theatrical release for Season 4 encountered a “delay longer than we anticipated and hoped for,” due to unspecified “legal matters that are hopefully being resolved.”
Previewing Season 4, Jenkins shared on the show’s YouTube page, “Jesus is weary and heavy-laden, and He needs rest. We’re getting closer and closer to Jerusalem, to what we know is coming. Jesus is getting increasingly frustrated, and yes, sad. Not because he’s getting closer to death, but because of the reasons He must die. From his faith’s religious leaders, to the holy city of Jerusalem, to his own friends and followers, people are not understanding his mission. To that end, He must allow painful things, and even set in motion certain confusing or bittersweet events, to accelerate the outcomes that will lead to Holy Week.
“Season 4 marks the midpoint of the most famous and influential story in human history,” he added. “It will be painful, and it will be joyous. It will be bittersweet. But by all measures, Season 4 will also be our best.”
As for what tales the series has left to tell during its planned seven-season run, Jenkins told Variety that Season 5 — which began filming in April — will “try to portray the most famous week in the history of humans.” The entirety of Season 6, meanwhile, “will cover one day” in the life(/death?/resurrection?) of Jesus, Jenkins teased.
The Chosen Season 1 through 3 episodes stream for free via the series’ app and also on Prime Video, Hulu, Peacock and Netflix.
