    With summer around the corner, New Yorkers are on the lookout for free, fun activities

    New York City — Hate it or love it: the cost of living in the Big Apple is higher than any other place in the nation. After all, where else but in New York City can you see a watermelon on sale for, ahem, $8?

    For the above reasons, New Yorkers are always on the lookout for bargains. In fact, the only word that sounds better than "free" to a New Yorker is "free-money."

    As for free amusements, because movies have long been considered "the highest form of entertainment," here's a list of 10 free outdoor movie screenings in New York City:

    Bryant Park

    Movie Nights at Bryant Park returns with the classic film “Forrest Gump.”

    The lawn opens at 5 p.m. and films start at 8 p.m.

    • “The Talented Mr. Ripley” – June 17
    • “Boomerang” – June 24
    • “Gladiator” – July 1
    • “Old School” – July 8

    • “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” – July 29
    • “Arrival” – Aug. 5
    • “Titanic” – Aug. 12

    Prospect Park

    Prospect Park's Movie Nights starts at the end of June and goes until mid-July.

    Here's Prospect Park's lineup of free movie screenings:

    • “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark” – June 26
    • “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” – July 3
    • “School of Rock” – July 10
    • “Clueless” – July 17

    Films on the Green

    The film festival starts with “Sink or Swim (Le Grand Bain)” at Cedar Hill in Central Park. These will be foreign films, which will offer English subtitles.

    Coney Island Beach

    Brooklyn's historic beach plans to host free movie screenings starting the week after the Fourth of July. The movie series kicks off with a screening of “The Warriors.”

    • “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” – July 18
    • “Everything Everywhere All At Once” – July 25
    • “Love & Basketball” Aug. 1

    Randall’s Island Park

    Randall’s Island Park's screenings will play at Field 62 and start at 7 p.m.

    • “Migration” – June 30
    • “Barbie” – July 13
    • “Elemental”– Aug. 9
