Finding a place to settle down and call home can be influenced by a variety of factors, with price arguably being one of if not the most important variable for many families searching for their forever home. While homes in some major cities come with a higher price tag, there are plenty of nearby towns and suburbs that won't be as hard on your wallet.

According to a list compiled by HomeSnacks , which analyzed census data on home prices, rents and incomes, the cheapest place to live in North Carolina is Eden , a small city in the Piedmont Triad area with a median home price of $135,635, median rent of $741 and median income of $43,607. Here's what the site had to say about the most affordable place to live in the state:

"With its low cost of living and abundant amenities, Eden is a great place to call home. [...] Eden, as its name would suggest, is home to several parks and recreational areas, including the Smith and Dan River access points, providing plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities like fishing and hiking. The community also has a rich history, with roots in textile mills and manufacturing that date back to the late 19th century."
