The Mets season seems to be going from bad to worse, as the team got even more bad news on Wednesday.

Coming off a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the Dodgers on Tuesday, New York entered Wednesday’s contest at 10 games below .500, and then announced that Edwin Diaz was heading to the IL with a right shoulder impingement in another blow to the bullpen.

Diaz has struggled badly this season after missing all of last year due to knee surgery. He was recently taken out of the closer role due to his struggles.

Josh Walker was called up to replace Diaz.

Once Wednesday’s game began, it only got worse, as Pete Alonso was removed from the game after being hit in the hand by a pitch in his first at-bat. Alonso checked his swing, was hit on the right hand, and came out shortly after.
