While the drama surrounding the contract situation for Brandon Aiyuk has raged on publicly and been imbued with anxiety, the 49ers have quietly had another receiver whose contract situation was unresolved.

Jauan Jennings was offered a second round restricted free agent tender of $4.89 million, but that offer sheet was not signed, and Jennings' status lingered.

That situation resolved Wednesday, with Jennings present at the second set of voluntary organized team activities. Per Adam Schefter , Jennings signed a two-year, $15.4 million deal with $10.5 million guaranteed.

Jennings had 10 third-down receptions last season on 16 targets for seven first downs, 121 yards and a touchdown. His presence as a third-down threat in an offense with the likes of Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey is significant.

His blocking presence is also not quantifiable, but it shows up consistently on tape. He was monstrous in the playoffs, with four catches for 42 yards and a touchdown in the Super Bowl, plus five catches for 61 yards against Green Bay. He also allows provides the 49ers, who are weak at tight end, with a large-framed, physical receiver who can function in a quasi tight end role.
