The Timberwolves are hoping to become first NBA team to come back from 0-3

Timberwolves fans have a flicker of hope that their team can do what has never been done before — climb back from a 0-3 series deficit in the NBA playoffs and win.

State of play: The Wolves, thanks to bounce-back games by Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns, notched their first win Tuesday night in Dallas.

    • They need to win three more in a row, starting tonight at Target Center, where they're favored by 4.5 points. If they do, it's back to Dallas, where the Mavericks will be feeling the pressure.

Flashback: 155 NBA teams have dug themselves a 0-3 hole in a seven-game series.

    • None of them have won, but four have forced a Game 7, most recently last year when the Boston Celtics came back against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.
    • 15 teams have forced a Game 6 .

Zoom out: Overcoming 0-3 has happened in other sports. The Boston Red Sox came back to beat the New York Yankees in 2004, the only time it's occurred in Major League Baseball.

    • It's happened four times in the NHL, most recently in 2014, when the Los Angeles Kings beat the San Jose Sharks.

What they're saying: When the Wolves fell into a 3-2 series hole in Denver, Edwards told staff in the arena he'd be back for Game 7.

    • He's telling people in Dallas — including Cowboys star Micah Parsons — he expects to be back there, too.
