New Minecraft Animated Series in Development at Netflix

Mojang Studios is once again cashing in on its popular video game Minecraft .

Not only will Minecraft head to the big screen next year in movie form, but Mojang has now announced that they will partner with Netflix to develop and produce an animated series for the streaming service based on the game.

This news comes as part of Minecraft 's 15-year anniversary celebration, which honors fans around the world and their adventures and stories from playing the game which has sold over 300 million copies.

Netflix's animated series will feature an original story with new characters and is said to "show the world of Minecraft in a new light".

The series, which will be CG-animated, is in development with WildBrain, the studio behind other Netflix animated series, Sonic Prime , Ninjago: Dragons Rising and Carmen Sandiego .

Further details such as when it will be released and who will voice the animated roles, are yet to be announced.
