He was found guilty of murdering his teen peer in 1997, but where Warren Glowatski is now might surprise viewers if you’re learning about his story from watching Hulu’s Under The Bridge starring Riley Keough and Lily Gladstone. Glowatski was 16 years old when he was imprisoned for this violent crime.

On November 14, 1997, Virk was invited to a party under the Gorge Waterway bridge, in Victoria, British Columbia, and never returned home. Her heavily beaten body was found eight days later on November 22, 1997, in the waterway in suburban Saanich and a couple of her fellow students were convicted of her slaying. Here’s where Warren Glowatski is now.

    Where is Warren Glowatski now?

Warren Glowatski was convicted of second-degree murder for the death of Reena Virk in 1999—he was released on full parole in 2010 with some conditions, per CBC, “Including that he not use intoxicants, have no association with known criminals and must report to a parole officer.”

His whereabouts now are unknown from our extensive search online, as many minors convicted of violent crimes in their youth change their names—his contemporary Kelly Ellard, who was also charged with the murder of Virk, changed her name to Kerry Sim.

What’s interesting about Glowatski is the bond he formed with Virk’s parents Suman and Manjit. They met several times while he was incarcerated. “The topic of marriage came up and I realized just what I had taken away from Suman and Manjit,” he said referring to one conversation during a parole hearing. “They reached out and offered me their hand and their care.”

Suman told reporters after the hearing, per CBC: “We would have hoped that somebody would have learned something from this whole thing. And so far, it looks like Warren has done that . Out of all the accused in this whole process, he’s the only one that’s done that.” She continued: “Today I think we see a young man who has taken responsibility for his actions and is trying to amend the wrong that he did.”

Ellard, meanwhile (who as mentioned changed her name to Kerry Sim), is still in jail for the murder of Virk, though her day parole has been extended after being sentenced to life behind bars in British Columbia. Day parole in Canada is a form of release that allows prisoners to participate in public activities during the day while still requiring them to return to a prison or halfway house each night.

What did Warren Glowatski do to Reena Virk?

On November 14, 1997, Virk was invited to a party under the Gorge Waterway bridge, in Victoria, British Columbia, by a group of friends. At one point, Nicole Cook asked Virk why she was spreading rumors; Virk called her a “bitch” (per the MSNBC News’ special, Bloodlust Under the Bridge ), so Cook put out a cigarette on Virk’s forehead.

Cook’s best friends, Ellard and Pleich began hitting and kicking Reena , and the rest of the group, including Warren Glowatski, joined in. When Virk tried to escape, Ellard, then 15, and Glowatski, then 16, followed and kept attacking her. Glowatski testified that Ellard had smashed Reena’s head into a tree and then held her underwater until Virk drowned.

“My thoughts back then were about being powerful,” CBC quoted Glowatski as saying during a parole hearing in 2007. “I call it bravado, or trying to be a gangster. I was screaming out for attention in all the wrong places and I got it.”

Virk’s body was found eight days later, on November 22, 1997, in the waterway in suburban Saanich. Per the New York Times, her neck, back, and arms were broken ; she had sustained multiple blows throughout her body and suffered a “convulsion injury as often seen in car crash victims.”
